Rivera generated significant buzz in the fall. He has shown arm strength on the summer showcase circuit, but took positive steps forward in the fall with respect to his velocity, strikethrowing and breaking ball. His fastball reached 97 mph with riding life through the zone at the WWBA Championships in October, and he showed the makings of a useable breaking ball. His velocity backed up in the spring, working mostly at 90-93 and he struggled to find feel for his curve. He still has a strong, durable frame and a lightning-quick arm, and some scouts envision him someday touching triple digits in a bullpen role if he can get back on the right track. Rivera is committed to Florida International.
