View Draft Report
Guenther earned Notre Dame's closer role late in his freshman season and parlayed that into a spot in the Irish's rotation as a sophomore. But Notre Dame's coaching staff decided to move the 5-foot-11 lefthander back to the bullpen for his junior year, using him as a moment-of-truth fireman. It worked out well as he attacked hitters with an upper-80s to low-90s mph fastball. It has more plane than one would expect for such a short lefty because of his overhand arm slot. He also throws a 12-to-6 curveball and a fringy slider. He also used a below-average changeup when he was starting but he hasn't needed it as a reliever. He's a quality athlete and creates deception by hiding the ball well in his delivery. Guenther could carve out a big league career as an athletic lefty reliever.
