Ashman is a tall and imposing lefthander with a 6-foot-7, 195-pound frame who attacks hitters from an extended three-quarters slot with a bit of crossfire in his delivery. He’s been a full-time reliever for Utah in each of his three seasons, but has consistently been a shutdown option out of the pen and has been an excellent strike-thrower in both 2023 and 2024. Ashman is close to a one-pitch pitcher, and uses his 90-94 mph fastball more than 80% of the time. He throws from a higher angle thanks to his height and release point, but does get solid riding life on the pitch, which could make it a mixed bag from an analytics perspective. Ashman also throws a slurvy breaking ball in the mid-to-upper 70s that varies between a two-plane breaking slider and true top-down curveball, and he has a rarely-used changeup that is currently a well below-average pitch and shouldn’t factor into his repertoire at the next level.
