Compton this spring hit .355/.427/.661 with 16 doubles, 14 home runs and 51 RBIs en route to winning the Pac-12’s freshman of the year award. At 6-foot-1, 225-pounds, Compton’s physicality is akin to a brick wall. He has thunderous raw power that is pushing a 70 on the 20-80 scale, and he is the furthest thing from a metal bat merchant. Compton has three long balls this summer and is slashing .284/.386/.405 and his pitch recognition skills and swing decisions have both taken a step forward. His power is certainly his carrying tool, but there is a chance his hit tool ends up as average. Compton moves better than one would think in the outfield, though he is without a doubt a left fielder professionally.
