View Draft Report
Hopfe is a 6-foot-1, 210-pound first baseman and righthanded pitcher who has played both ways for four seasons with Fresno State. He’s a career .329/.408/.536 hitter who makes plenty of contact in the zone and hits the ball hard, though his swing decisions are overly aggressive and he puts the ball on the ground too much to fully take advantage of his power. Hopfe is a first baseman and corner outfielder and might profile best at first base at the next level. He’s pitched as a reliever and throws a 90-94 mph fastball and mid-80s slider/cutter with solid control.

Age At Draft: 20.8
A two-way player who has pitched out of the bullpen and hit for Fresno State, Hopfe was solid last summer in the Cape Cod League where he posted a 3.42 ERA over 23.2 innings with 23 strikeouts and six walks. This spring he posted a 4.87 ERA in 20.1 innings with a 24.1% strikeout rate and 11.1% walk rate, but has maybe impressed scouts more with his hitting ability. A 6-foot-1, 200-pound first baseman, Hopfe hit .312/.371/.583 with 13 home runs and 14 doubles. He is an aggressive swinger at times and has a tendency to expand the strike zone, but can drive the ball out of the park to both gaps when he is able to put the barrel on the ball. He’s a day three draft target and is on the younger side of the class for a college player—he won’t turn 21 until October.
