Age At Draft: 21
Wild threw just 2.2 innings in his 2021 freshman season with Gonzaga before taking a big step forward in 2022, when he posted a 3.03 ERA over 74.1 innings and was an All-West Coast Conference honorable mention. The 2023 season for the stocky righthander wasn’t quite as solid, as Wild posted a 5.02 ERA over 15 starts and 95 innings, with a 25.1% strikeout rate and 7.4% walk rate. Despite the ERA, scouts are still intrigued with his control and three-pitch mix. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound righthander does a nice job establishing an 89-92 mph fastball that has touched 95 with around 20 inches of induced vertical break. He backs the fastball up with an above-average changeup around 80 and a fringy slider in the 77-81 mph range. Some scouts think he could find a bit more velocity by cleaning up his thicker frame in pro ball, and if he can add a few more ticks of velocity, there’s a solid depth starter package here.
