Stafford has been a solid performing catcher since the first day he got to campus at Cal Poly. He was a first-team freshman All-American after a .321/.384/.431 season in 2022 and followed that up by slashing .313/.393/.500 with 20 doubles in 2023. Stafford also made Team USA’s college national team in 2023—along with Stanford’s Malcolm Moore as the two catchers on the roster—and threw out 28% of baserunners in 2023. He is a shorter righthanded hitter with a contact-over-power offensive profile, but should stick behind the plate as an average defender with fringe-average arm strength but a quick exchange and solid accuracy.
