Drafted in the 12th round (372nd overall) by the Oakland Athletics in 2014.

Willman led the Summit League as a sophomore with 9.24 strikeouts per nine innings, and his 6-foot-6, 190-pound frame and live arm had him on scouts' radars. He was effectively wild last summer in the Northwoods League and again this spring with Western Illinois, though his strikeout rate decreased as he took on the Leathernecks' Friday starter role. Willman has improved his efficiency this season, but he remains inconsistent and raw for a college junior. He also remains wiry, with room to fill out physically and throw harder more consistently. His fastball sat in the 90-95 mph range this spring, and he could throw harder with tweaks to his delivery. His slider remains inconsistent, and he has a better feel for his changeup, which can be an average pitch.
