A senior, Jernigan was the Big East Player of the Year as coaches were impressed enough by his power (14 home runs, .557 slugging percentage) to overlook his contact troubles (59 strikeouts in 221 at-bats) and .253 batting average. He's athletic and has defensive versatility that should come in handy in pro ball as their are doubts that he can play much shortstop at the next level.
