Hughes was a strike-throwing upper-80s righthander for most of his amateur career. His velocity spiked as a senior--reaching as high as 94-96. Hughes also shows a sharp slider. He receives excellent reviews for his character and makeup. He struck out 55 batters and walked 16 in 43 innings this season, posting a 2.51 ERA.
