Draft Prospects
Burland likely will be the first prep player drafted out of the state of Washington this spring. He owns an athletic 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame and played basketball and football earlier in his prep career before focusing on baseball last summer. He's athletic and offensive enough to be an impact two-way player for Gonzaga, but scouts like him better on the mound. He has a quick, loose arm that portends greater velocity with more coaching and focus on the mound. He pitched in the 88-89 mph range this spring but popped 92-93 mph regularly, and he has shown some ability to spin a hard breaking ball, though it's an early-breaking pitch more often than not. Burland's rawness may knock him down some teams' boards.
