Gowens is a 6-foot-3, 220-pound righthander and data darling with a loose, whippy arm action and high, three-quarter slot. He faded a bit down the stretch and dealt with injury, and posted a 6.30 ERA over 12 starts and 60 innings, with a 27.7% strikeout rate and 5.9% walk rate. He pitched mostly off a 91-92 mph fastball that has been up to 96 and features plus riding life. Gowens gets more than 19 inches of induced vertical break on the fastball and also generated a 26% miss rate with the pitch, while throwing it for strikes almost 70% of the time. It plays up thanks to run and ride, and he also shows some promise with a low-to-mid-80s slider that flashes sharp, two-plane break and has mixed in a mid-80s changeup. There’s a bit of reliever risk with Gowens, but he could fit as a late day two or early day three selection.
