School: Indiana
Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted
Age at Draft: 21.5
Mathison made his mark with Indiana immediately and broke the program’s freshman home run record in 2022 when he hit 19 to surpass the 14-homer mark that Alex Dickerson set back in 2009. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound outfielder traded a bit of power for OBP and average during the 2023 season, when he hit .308/.426/.533 with 10 home runs and 15 doubles. His power didn’t fully translate to a wood bat in the Cape Cod League in 2023, but he did show a solid approach with more walks than strikeouts and a .408 on-base percentage in 31 games with Cotuit.

Mathison is a 6-foot-2, 215-pound outfielder and lefthanded hitter who broke Indiana’s freshman home run record in 2022 when he hit 19 to top the 14-homer mark Alex Dickerson set back in 2009. While he never quite had another season as strong as his first, Mathison has been a consistent sort of power and OBP for the Hoosiers over three seasons and is a career .280/.399/.544 hitter for the program. His power didn’t fully translate to wood bats when he played in the Cape Cod League in 2023, but he did show a solid offensive approach with more walks than strikeouts that summer. Mathison’s swing decisions and ability to take a walk might be his best offensive tool, and he’ll need to maintain that moving forward because his pure bat-to-ball skills are below average and he has lots of miss questions vs. secondaries that could impact his ability to tap into his solid raw power.. After playing left field in his first two seasons Mathison slid over to center field as a junior in 2024. He should have the speed to handle the position in pro ball.
