A big and physical, 6-foot-3, 210-pound first baseman, Hines served as Mississippi State’s designated hitter during his first two seasons while providing the power expected from that position, then slid over to first base fulltime in 2024. He has tapped into double-digit home runs in each season in college, and finished his first three years with the program as a .283/.370/.583 hitter with 54 home runs. He also played a summer in the Cape Cod League in 2023 where he homered 13 times in just 41 games with Yarmouth-Dennis. Hines is a power-over-hit offensive player with significant contact questions thanks to a career 25.7% strikeout rate and a 67% contact rate this spring. He’s also extremely pull heavy, which has been fine for him in college but could become more of a question in pro ball. Most of Hines’ value is tied up in his power, as he looks like a first-base only defender who won’t provide much defensive value and is a below-average runner. Still, he has been a consistent home run threat for three seasons in the SEC.
