Torres is a well-built, 6-foot-3, 215-pound third baseman. He comes out of the same Miami Springs program that produced Yasmani Grandal in 2007. Torres is a power hitting corner infielder who has shown some hittability in the past with impressive bat speed but struggled with pitch recognition and swing-and-miss issues during the showcase circuit. Torres has a big leg kick and steps in the bucket, with a tendency to get pull heavy and out in front on soft stuff and breaking balls. This spring he hit .467 (35-for-75) with nine home runs against Florida 4A competition. He has solid arm strength from the left side of the infield but is a well below-average runner who might move across the diamond to first base in the future. Torres is committed to Miami.
