Drafted in the 14th round (417th overall) by the San Diego Padres in 2014.
View Draft Report
After pitching at the back end of the James Madison bullpen his first two seasons, Huffman transitioned to the rotation and showed a strong body with three pitches that have at least average potential. He opened the season throwing 91-93 mph, touching 94, and settled in at 89-92 mph, touching 93, down the stretch with good downhill plane and sink on his fastball. He pairs that with a slider that shows above-average potential but is inconsistent. His changeup will also need work. Huffman commands his fastball but didn't miss as many bats as his stuff might indicate at 6.8 strikeouts per nine. He has a strong, athletic build at 6-foot-3, 220 pounds and showed scouts enough to get a chance to be a starter in pro ball.
