View Draft Report
Tovalin impressed when he posted eight doubles, a triple and four home runs in 30 Cape Cod League games after his sophomore season at Azusa Pacific. He followed up with 21 home runs, tied for fifth-most in Div. II, and a .740 slugging percentage as a junior. Tovalin has a strong, thick build at 6-foot-2, 222 pounds and matches his strength with excellent bat speed. The result is massive pull power with little effort, and he gets to it in games. Tovalin swings and misses too much for some evaluators' liking and they question his ability to handle good spin or elevated velocity. He also projects to move to first base. But Tovalin's easy plus power and demonstrated ability to get to it makes him appealing to many, and he stands to be one of the top Div. II position players drafted.
