Drafted in the 3rd round (106th overall) by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2005 (signed for $325,000).

OF Sergio Pedroza is one of the best college hitters on the West Coast. At .341-12-46, he led the Titans in all three triple-crown categories. He has a nice, loose swing with quick hands and power to all fields. But at 5-foot-10, he's not tall enough to be an early-round pick and his other tools are below-average, except his arm strength.

Pedroza has put up impressive numbers as a pro. He hit 16 homers in a half-season after signing with the Dodgers as a 2005 third-round pick, then smacked 28 homers, drew 101 walks and led the low Class A South Atlantic League with a .437 on-base percentage and .562 slugging percentage. While Pedroza did reach high Class A, he did most of his damage in SAL, where he was older than most of his competition at 22. But the Rays thought enough of his offensive potential to get him included in the July trade that sent Julio Lugo to the Dodgers. Pedroza has some juice in his bat and is capable of driving the ball out of the park to all fields. He's a free swinger who strikes out a lot yet still manages to draw a ton of walks. Without question, Pedroza's live bat will have to carry him at higher levels. He's a below-average runner who was caught eight times in 10 steals attempts last year, and he's no more than an adequate defender on the outfield corners. Besides his bat, his arm is his best tool. He'll open this season in Double-A, which will be a fairer test of his talents.
