Adam Bailey began his college career as a pitcher at Arizona State and played both ways at South Mountain (Ariz.) CC before becoming predominantly an outfielder at Nebraska. A 6-foot-1, 201-pounder, he offers bat speed and lefthanded power. He led the Cornhuskers with 12 homers in 2009 and 18 this spring, though he sometimes struggles against good velocity. Bailey has arm strength, but his lack of speed likely will relegate him to left field as a pro.

Bailey was the Astros' biggest mover in 2011 who didn't reach the major leagues. He started the season in low Class A, finished it in Double-A and never stopped hitting. He took a circuitous path to pro ball, beginning his college career as a seldom-used pitcher at Arizona State in 2007. He transferred to South Mountain (Ariz.) CC for a year before moving on to Nebraska. He turned down the Yankees as a 38th-round pick in 2009, then lasted until the 23rd round in 2010 despite leading the Big 12 Conference with 18 homers and 69 RBIs. Scouts aren't sold on Bailey's ability to hit consistently, as he's aggressive to a fault and doesn't draw a lot of walks. He struggles with breaking balls from lefthanders and is a below-average runner. That said, he has bat speed, strength and above-average power, and his 24 homers ranked second in the Astros system last year. Bailey's pitching background has left him with enough arm strength for right field, though he's a fringy defender who may be better suited to left. He'll play in Double-A this year.
