Henderson didn't get much fanfare as a swingman on a Houston staff that included 2003 first-rounders Ryan Wagner (Reds) and Brad Sullivan (Athletics), plus fifth-rounder Danny Zell (Tigers) and Garrett Mock, who will go early in 2004. But the Devil Rays took Henderson in the seventh round, sent him straight to low Class A and watched him have no trouble making the transition. That wasn't a surprise, considering that Henderson has overachieved since being cut from his high school team as a freshman. He possesses incredible determination and intelligence, as evidenced by his 1510 SAT score and pursuit of a chemical engineering degree at Houston. Henderson's best pitch is a big league curveball. He also has an average fastball, and is working on a straight change with plus potential. He throws strikes and though he's just 5-foot-11, he pitches down in the strike zone. Headed for high Class A to start 2004, he's on the fast track and could surface in Tampa Bay's bullpen as early as late 2005.
