Nestor may have the best pure arm strength in the system. He's all about power, starting with a fastball that sits at 93-95 mph and has touched 98. He also throws a hard slider at 85-86 mph and a cutter at 88-89. The slider in particular has a chance to be a plus pitch once he learns to throw it for strikes. Big and durable, Nestor has no trouble taking the ball several days in a row, although he did have some minor elbow issues in 2004 and again in 2006. Used primarily as a setup man in Double-A, he struggled with command at times but was lights-out when things were clicking. He goes right after hitters and has averaged better than a strikeout per inning for his career. Nestor has a very intense personality, on and off the mound, and sometimes that affects him adversely when things start to snowball against him. The Marlins added him to their 40-man roster and sent him to the Arizona Fall League to prepare him for challenging for a big league bullpen spot out of spring training.
