Drafted in the 12th round (369th overall) by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2018 (signed for $125,000).
View Draft Report
Lewis was all set to sign with the Rays as an 11th-round pick last summer, but when the Rays didn't sign supplemental first-round pick Drew Rasmussen, it meant that they didn't have the money to sign Lewis. So Lewis returned for his redshirt junior year at Kentucky and once again proved to be a very reliable Sunday starter. Lewis' plus split-changeup is a weapon with excellent deception and late tumble. His fastball is also above-average, as he'll touch 93-94 mph at his best, and he has a fringe-average slider. Lewis is long, lean and athletic, but he could use some additional strength. His velocity tailed off badly in 2017 and he was trying to survive with a high-80s fastball by the end of the year.

A redshirt sophomore who served as the Wildcats' setup man last season, Lewis moved into the weekend rotation this season and has thrived, although diminishing velocity in the second half of the season has cooled some of the scouts' ardor. Lewis is a solid strike-thrower with a potentially plus changeup. Lewis' fastball is 91-93 mph at its best, 89-92 on a normal day and 85-88 on his worst days (which came more often in the second half of the season). It can be an above-average pitch with some late sink and tail. His changeup is a weapon as he does a good job of maintaining his arm speed while showing excellent velocity separation (his changeup is 75-78 mph) and late fade. Lewis' slider is a fringy pitch at best. He can throw it for strikes, but it's sweepy pitch that is easy to recognize out of the hand.
