Draft Prospects
Jones entered the year looking like a potential top pick. A physical lefthander at 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, he was showing improved strength and flexibility in the fall, but was also limited with elbow tendinitis, which led to Tommy John surgery in February. Jones became the third Oregon pitcher to have the surgery prior to the 2012 season, joining talented freshmen Cole Wiper and Sam Johnson. Prior to the injury, Jones was pitching in the 90-93 mph range with good sink on his fastball along with a sweeping breaking ball and a changeup. Jones has strong makeup and is a tireless worker. He's a wild card because of the injury, but is still expected to be the first Duck off the board.
