Custons is an athletic catcher with a 5-foot-11, 200-pound build. The senior came to the Air Force Academy from Sarasota (Fla.) High and hit well all four years for the Falcons, setting a career record for doubles with 76. Custons was primarily a catcher for Air Force and has average arm strength. He also played some outfield. He shows some feel for the barrel with his strong righthanded swing and is a below-average runner. After being drafted, Custons said, "If I get the opportunity to play baseball professionally, it would be a lifetime dream come true. But I know my priority is serving in the Air Force as an officer. I came to the Academy to become an officer and fully plan on serving my country."
