The younger brother of Athletics righty A.J. Griffin, Aaron spent his first three years at LMU working primarily as a trusted reliever, but he thrived in the weekend rotation as a senior, going 4-5, 3.07 with 72 strikeouts and 19 walks in 88 innings. Griffin has a durable 6-foot-4, 210-pound frame and a crossfire delivery that gives him some deception. That helps his fringy fastball--which sits in the high 80s and tops out at 91--play up. He also has a fringe-average changeup against lefties, and a slurve and cutter that are below-average to fringy. He's a decent athlete with good feel for pitching, and he garnered some top-10-rounds interest as a cost-saving senior sign, though he lacks big league impact ability.
