Drafted in the 8th round (226th overall) by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2015 (signed for $177,100).

A year ago, Kennesaw State reached super regionals and catcher Max Pentecost was drafted 11th overall by the Blue Jays. The Owls didn't have the same kind of success this season, but Simmons again gave the team a solid prospect. Though he doesn't have any standout tools, Simmons earns praise for his intangibles and overall skill set. He is a switch-hitter and shows more feel from the left side and a little more pop from the right. He reached double-digit home runs this spring but projects as more of a gap-to-gap hitter with doubles power as a professional. He's an average runner and his speed plays up on the basepaths thanks to his high baseball IQ. Simmons' defense draws mixed reviews. He's made a lot of errors at Kennesaw State, but has a strong arm and does a good job of getting to balls. In a draft that is light on catching, some teams would like to try him behind the plate in the professional ranks. He's never caught in college, but his arm strength and makeup make him an intriguing candidate to make the transition.
