Stubbs has been drafted twice previously, first out of high school in Waynesville, N.C. (Red Sox, 29th round). He attended Tennessee as a freshman and nothing went right, so he transferred to Walters State (Tenn.) JC and was drafted in the 14th round in 2011 by the Nationals. He didn't sign again and transferred to North Carolina, where he struggled as a junior. Stubbs tightened up his 6-foot-4, 215-pound frame and had a big senior season, leading UNC in hitting at .372 and ranking third in the country in RBIs. He's adopted more of a line-drive approach but still has the power for the occasional homer. He's improved defensively but still has some rough moments.
