Age At Draft: 21.7
When it comes to sheer strength and physicality, it is hard to match Braden Holcomb. The 6-foot-4, 257-pound Adonis would not look out of place on an NFL team, and he boasts big-time bat speed to go along with tremendous raw power. However, it has been a struggle so far this season and he has struggled to consistently put the ball in play. There are swing-and-miss and pitch recognition issues in Holcomb’s game, and he is very much a power-over-hit profile. He has no shortage of arm strength in the infield, though it is up in the air as to where he will end up long term defensively. This summer on the Cape for him will be productive, as he figures to log both at-bats and reps on the dirt on a fairly regular basis. -

Much like Nationals shortstop Brady House was at this age, Holcomb physically looks like he belongs in a major league uniform today. He’s 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, strong, athletic and has a mature tool set for his age, with a combination of strength and bat speed to produce plus raw power. As an underclassman, Holcomb showed the ability to tap into that power against live pitching too, with one of the better offensive track records among 2023 hitters. He had a rough introduction to much of the national scouting community on the 2022 showcase circuit, however, when he went 0-for-12 with two walks and nine strikeouts at the PDP League in July, struggling with both chase and contact. The swing can get lengthy at times and Holcomb has also shown a tendency to leak out to the pull side with his lower half. Holcomb has a plus arm and has spent time at shortstop, though at his size he’s likely a third baseman in pro ball, with a chance he could head to an outfield corner as well. He’s athletic for his size, with slightly above-average speed, although that tool could back up in the future as well. Holcomb is committed to Vanderbilt.
