Drafted in the 38th round (1,136th overall) by the New York Mets in 2013.

Paez went 7-4, 3.64 in 72 innings at San Diego in 2011, then transferred to Rio Hondo, where he sat out 2012. He ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League last summer and carved up junior-college hitters this spring. Paez lacks projection at just 5-foot-9, 185 pounds, but he makes up for it with his advanced feel for a four-pitch mix. He pounds the strike zone with an 87-91 mph fastball and keeps hitters off balance with a solid slider, curveball and changeup. He sells his changeup well, and his slider can be an out pitch against lefties. Scouts aren't excited about his thick, short frame, but his feel for pitching and competitiveness could get him drafted in the ninth- to 12th-round range.
