Hammond is a 6-foot-3, 195-pound righthanded reliever who has been a solid option out of the bullpen for Santa Clara for three seasons and this spring started a handful of games. He posted a 3.76 ERA over 69.1 innings with a 27.8% strikeout rate and career-best 9.4% walk rate. He only averages 90 mph with a fastball that will touch 93 mph, but scouts like his low-80s power curveball that has solid bite and finish at the bottom of the zone. It’s an above-average breaking ball that generated a 54% miss rate this spring. Hammond will also mix in a slider with less depth that’s a few ticks harder than the curveball and a mid-80s changeup.
