Hartman has the big and physical frame that might be expected of a pitcher who also played high school football, and stands an imposing 6-foot-3, 215 pounds. He has the look of a workhorse lefthander, though he’ll need to clean up some of the violence and effort in his delivery. Hartman attacks hitters with a high, three-quarter slot and throws with plenty of effort and an aggressive, downer head whack. During the 2022 summer, Hartman pitched in the low 90s and touched 94, and this spring scouts saw him touch 95 with a fastball that should continue to gain velocity in the next few years. Hartman throws a curveball in the mid-to-upper 70s with 11-to-5 shape that has the makings of an average breaking ball. He’s also shown solid feel for a low-80s changeup with impressive fade and tumble. He has spotted the pitch down in the zone nicely and it looks like a strong offering for righthanded hitters and could play up thanks to the violence in his delivery and the arm speed with which he throws it. Hartman is committed to Louisville and might be a tough sign, but he’s viewed as a 3-5 round talent.
