A projection righthander with a great pitcher’s frame at 6-foot-3, 215-pounds, Rogers has intrigued scouts this spring in the deep South thanks to his arm speed and future projection. Rogers has a rudimentary delivery with an upper and lower half that aren’t always fully synced up, as well as a deep stabbing action in the back of his arm stroke that can inhibit his timing and overall control, but his right arm comes through a three-quarter slot with plenty of speed and he looks like the sort of player who could throw quite hard in the future with mechanical improvement. Rogers mostly pitches in the 89-91 mph range and has been up to 92-93 at peak velocity, with a curveball that flashes decent bite and 11-to-5 shape and a changeup that needs plenty of work. There are real questions with Rogers’ feel to spin a breaking ball and his control is scattered and erratic currently, but there’s plenty of arm talent as well for a team that can afford to be patient with his development. If not, Rogers could continue working on his craft at Louisiana-Lafayette. The teams in on Rogers view him as a late day two talent.
