Track Record: The Cardinals signed Cedeno as a catcher out of Venezuela in 2014 for $80,000 but knew he wasn't going to stick behind the plate. They loved his bat and massive raw power, and he's delivered. Cedeno finished second in the Appalachian League in hits (75), home runs (14) and total bases (132) and third in OPS (1.011) in 2018, showing 400-plus foot home run power that had opposing managers buzzing.
Scouting Report: Cedeno turns heads with his nearly top-of-the-scale power. He hit one homer over Johnson City's 24-foot wall in center field 420 feet away, something no one in the league can recall ever happening. Cedeno generates his power with a short, compact swing, and he has an advanced approach for his age. He has solid hitter's instincts, and the sound off his bat is different than anyone else's. Cedeno has to hit because he doesn't offer much else. He has a thick body and doesn't move well, limiting him to first base long-term.
The Future: Cedeno will have to continue mashing to rise. He has a chance to convert skeptics at low Class A Peoria in 2019.
