Piedmonte's path to this point is less than traditional. He was an intriguing prospect out of his school. With outstanding projectability in his massive 6-foot-8 frame. He then needed Tommy John surgery prior to his senior year of high school and was subsequently redshirted as a freshman at N.C. State. Piedmonte was then involved in a car accident prior to his sophomore year that injured his back and required surgery to correct nerve damage. Finally, Piedmonte was back on the mound and healthy this spring. He showed intriguing stuff during intrasquad games, then broke out as a prospect this spring. Piedmonte throws his fastball at 88-92 with heavy plane to both sides of the plate. He has shown flashes of fastball command to all four quadrants of the zone, though he is raw. His curveball breaks from 11-to-5, sometimes flashing above-average potential, and sometimes looking like a below-average offering. Piedmonte still has a long way to go, but his ceiling is high if he can continue to stay healthy.
