Track Record: Burke completed his college career in 2022 with one season at Miami after two years at Southeastern Louisiana. He had an outstanding season with the Hurricanes and hit .347/.425/.599 while earning second-team all-Atlantic Coast Conference honors. A football player in high school, Burke consistently plays hard and has drawn comparisons with former White Sox outfielder Adam Engel. Burke was drafted in the 11th round in 2022 and signed for $225,000. His 2023 season was delayed by lower back inflammation. He made it to Low-A Kannapolis on May 11, where he posted an outstanding batting line of .315/.416/.512 and continued to hit after a promotion to High-A Winston-Salem. He finished the year with an assignment to the Arizona Fall League.
Scouting Report: Burke has an aggressive approach at the plate, with a little wrap to his load, good timing and above-average bat speed. He grades as a tick below-average hitter with below-average power but is able to strike line drives to the gaps. But he has also shown a tendency to roll over on the ball when he doesn’t get the bat head out in front. Burke is an above-average defender and has above-average speed and has mostly played center field. His average arm will allow him to play both left and right field. Burke plays the game hard and regularly demonstrates intentional pre-game work.
The Future: Double-A Birmingham is Burke’s likely destination in 2024. He is the kind of player that every manager wants on his team, and could become a solid fourth outfielder.
