Track Record: Gerardo was part of Miami’s 2022 international free agent class and signed for $180,000. In 2022, he showed flashes of his immense upside in the Dominican Summer League and hit .284/.417/.551 with 12 doubles, 11 home runs, 31 RBIs and 18 stolen bases. However, Gerardo struggled in the Florida Complex League in his stateside debut, producing a .192/.345/.319 slash line and a sky-high strikeout rate of 42.5%.
Scouting Report: Gerardo has a lean, athletic build at 6-foot, 179 pounds. He has a relaxed setup in the box, standing tall with a slightly open front side. Gerardo has hardly any stride, though his swing can get long at times, but he has plus bat speed and has already generated high-quality impact at a young age. His max exit velocity last year was 108 mph, and his overall offensive upside is exciting given his remaining physical projection. Gerardo struggled to make contact in 2023 with an incredibly low overall contact rate of just 54% and an in-zone contact rate of 66%. His pitch-recognition skills will need to drastically improve in order to unlock his full offensive potential. Gerardo has a double-plus arm in the outfield, where he is a solid defender. He split time between center and right field last year, but would be a slam dunk fit in right field given his arm strength.
The Future: Gerardo is on track to begin 2024 in the Florida Complex League and will likely spend a fair amount of time there given his 2023 struggles. He figures to make his Low-A debut at some point next year, but his potential big league debut will not be until at least 2027. Gerardo has as much upside as any prospect in the system, but will need to refine his plate skills.

Track Record: The Marlins' most recent international signing class was headed by Gerardo and fellow outfielder Antony Peguero. Gerardo was initially identified as part of the weekly tryouts the Marlins hold at their Dominican Academy. He stuck out for his loose, athletic actions, and the team's pitching staff liked the cleanliness of his arm stroke so much that they wanted to see what he could do on the mound. His offensive gifts were too great, however, and he put together a fine debut season in the DSL.
Scouting Report: Despite an average frame, Gerardo has excellent hip and shoulder mobility and generates plenty of torque that helps him impact the baseball. His 11 home runs were tied for third in the DSL, and his 91 total bases and 24 extra-base hits each also placed among the league's top 10. The impact is there, but now he needs to shore up his swing decisions. He struck out at a roughly 30% rate in the DSL with an overall whiff rate of 37.2%. He was hurt particularly on breaking balls. He's got fringe-average speed, which should allow him to stay in center field for a while, but his ultimate home will be in right field, where his double-plus arm strength will be a weapon. His footwork and route-running need to improve for his defense to get to even fringe-average.
The Future: Gerardo's next stop is the Florida Complex League, where he'll work to clean up his swing decisions and outfield defense in the hopes of becoming an offensive-minded right fielder for a second-division club.

Gerardo has quickly emerged as one of the most promising prospects from Miami's signing group. At 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, Gerardo has a strong but lean, lively frame with a lot of flexibility and quick-twitch athleticism that stands out quickly. His athleticism and mobility are evident in the way he swings and he has the ability to whip the barrel through the zone to drive the ball well for his age with a chance to develop above-average power given the physical projection remaining. Gerardo is a tick above-average runner who has a chance to stay in center field, though some scouts think he might ultimately outgrow it and end up in right field. His best tool is an outstanding arm that has been clocked up to 102 mph from the outfield, drawing 80 grades from some scouts and giving him a fallback option as a pitcher. -

Track Record: Gerardo wasn't one of the bigger bonus players for the Marlins when they signed him out of the Dominican Republic after the 2021-22 international signing period opened on Jan. 15, 2022, yet he has quickly emerged as one of the most promising signings from that group.

The Future: The early returns on Gerardo's ability to hit in games have been encouraging, but he has yet to get his first official at-bats in pro ball. That will come this year in the Dominican Summer League.
