Track Record: Jorge was available to teams late in the 2020-21 international signing period after defecting from Cuba. He waited until the following year, when teams’ bonus pools reset, to sign with the Rockies for $2.8 million. Jorge debuted in the Dominican Summer League in 2022, hitting .320/.402/.451 in 53 games. After impressing in minor league camp, Jorge was destined for Low-A Fresno before he broke his right hamate and missed two months. He made his 2023 debut in the Arizona Complex League on June 5, reaching Low-A Fresno a month later.
Scouting Report: Jorge has a tall, lean frame with wiry strength and looks likely to add good weight in the coming years without sacrificing his athleticism. He’s an above-average contact hitter with a patient approach at the plate. His swing is more designed for line-drive contact, with a flatter plane and an approach more focused on making consistent contact and spreading the ball around. His game power is well below-average, and he didn’t homer in 49 games in Low-A. Jorge’s flatter swing plane and lack of physicality translates to below-average exit velocity and a lack of well-struck fly balls. Jorge is likely to add strength in the coming years, and with adjustments to his swing could find mid-teens power at peak. He’s a twitchy, quick runner with speed that translates to both sides of the ball. In the field, Jorge shows range and a quick first step, but he will play too fast at times and lose some plays his hands and feet should make. His throwing arm is above-average with plus arm strength and average accuracy. As Jorge matures, he could grow into a more well-rounded hitter and add polish to his defense.
The Future: An advanced bat-to-ball hitter with tools and projection, Jorge looks like an average everyday infielder with average hitting ability.

Track Record: A native of Cuba, Jorge defected late in the 2020 international period at a point when most teams had already committed a majority of their bonus pools. Instead, Jorge opted to wait until the following signing period, when he landed with the Rockies for $2.8 million. He made his professional debut in the Dominican Summer League and posted an .853 OPS. He came stateside for the Rockies' fall instructional league program.
Scouting Report: An advanced hitter with a discerning eye at the plate and plate discipline unusual for a player his age, Jorge has a tall, svelte build with a high level of fitness and twitch. He's rail-thin at present but projects to add good weight as he ages because of broad shoulders and a lean, muscular shape. Jorge shows above-average hittability with the ability to make a high rate of contact in-zone. Jorge limits his swing and misses out of the zone and stays inside his approach. At times, this is a hindrance because he rarely lets loose and instead opts to stay inside the ball and shoot it to the opposite field. This limits his power projection because his current swing and setup aren't conducive to average or better in-game power. He shows line-drive and gap power, which safely projects to fringe-average power. Jorge is a plus runner who gets out of the blocks quick and translates his speed to all areas of his game. Jorge projects to stick up the middle because of good infield actions, a quick first step and smooth transfers. He's an above-average infield defender with room to grow into plus.
The Future: A twitchy projectable player with advanced hitting acumen at the plate, Jorge could blow up if he proves he can hit for power.

With how early teams now commit their international bonus pool space to players in the Dominican Republic and Venezuela, by the time Jorge left Cuba, teams had already committed most of their 2020 international bonus pool space to other players. Instead, Jorge opted to wait for the following signing period—which ended up getting delayed another six months because of the pandemic—and joined the Rockies on Jan. 15, 2022 for a $2.8 million bonus. Jorge has a long, slender, swimmer's body type and is an athletic defender at shortstop. He's a plus-plus runner with easy actions in the field, a good internal clock and a plus arm, giving him the upside to develop into a plus defender. The biggest split among scouts was his offensive upside, and while he doesn't project to be a power threat, the early returns at the plate have been encouraging. He participated in the team's Dominican instructional league and led that group in hitting, managing his at-bats well and showing good bat-to-ball skills with a line-drive-oriented stroke and a two-strike approach. At 19, Jorge is advanced enough to move faster, but he's scheduled to make his pro debut in the Dominican Summer League. -
