The hulking, 6-foot-7, 230-pound Vradenburg is part of a family of college athletes. His father, Todd, played football at San Diego State; his mother, Ann, played soccer at Pacific; and his sister, Tori, played softball at Allegheny (Pa.). After a pair of lukewarm seasons with Michigan State in 2021 and 2022, Vradenburg broke out in 2023 and finished the season with a .400/.492/.721 slash line with 13 home runs, 22 doubles and impressive plate discipline numbers. He struck out at a 12.9% clip, walked at a 13.7% clip and had a strong 19% chase rate. Scouts commend his ability to control the zone and he’s also shown all-fields power, though he has more of a strength-based swing than one driven by pure bat speed, and his massive frame supplies plenty of raw juice. He posted a 91 mph average exit velocity and a 106 mph 90th percentile exit velocity this spring. Vradenburg will likely be limited to first base in pro ball, so there’s plenty of pressure on him to continue hitting, but he did just that in his platform season, where he was the second-best hitter for average in the Big Ten.

BA Grade: 45/High
Track Record: Vradenburg was one of the best pure hitters in college in 2023 and produced a gaudy .400/.492/.721 slash line with 22 doubles, 13 home runs and 69 RBIs across 55 games played. He was a third team All-American and first team All-Big 10 selection for his performance. Vradenburg was selected 78th overall and signed for the full slot value of $916,000. He had a quiet introduction to professional baseball and hit .236/.368/.291 with just four extra-base hits in 34 games with Low-A Jupiter.
Scouting Report: Vradenburg stands at a towering 6-foot-7, 230 pounds with physicality throughout his massive frame. He stands almost completely upright in the box and holds the bat practically straight up and down with his hands a bit far from his chest. Vradenburg has average bat speed as well as average raw power that he has yet to flash in-game as a pro. He has a sound approach with an overall chase rate of 16.7%, but his bat-to-ball skills are slightly below average given his 71% overall contact rate. Vradenburg isn’t a great athlete, but holds his own over at first base which is where he will stick.
The Future: Given his overall profile, Vradenburg will need to mash in order to produce at a respectable clip. He has less than a full pro season under his belt and will have plenty of time to get adjusted, but his initial showing was underwhelming. Vradenburg figures to start the 2024 season in Low-A before a promotion to High-A Beloit.
