Track Record: Colas was first eligible to sign in late 2020 but chose to wait until the next international signing period. He signed on Jan. 25, 2022, when the White Sox had replenished their international bonus pool. Colas signed for $2.7 million after being on the sidelines for two years. He previously played in his native Cuba and also spent three seasons with the Fukuoka organization in Nippon Professional Baseball, playing primarily in the Japanese minor leagues from ages 18 to 20. The White Sox started Colas at High-A Winston-Salem in 2022 before promoting him to Double-A Birmingham and eventually to Triple-A Charlotte. Colas finished his first season in affiliated ball with an .895 OPS and 23 home runs despite missing time in May with a wrist injury.
Scouting Report: Colas projects to be an above-average hitter with future plus power. He uses the whole field and shows the ability to get his barrel on tough pitches and take them the opposite way. He also is savvy enough to use pull-side power early in counts before taking a more balanced approach as he gets deeper into at-bats. Colas has average power now but should develop into a more well-rounded hitter and could provide 25-30 home runs a year if he reaches his ceiling. To get there, he'll have to cure himself of a tendency to chase pitches down and away, which has led to strikeout rates around 20%. Colas is a below-average runner, especially down the line, but is better going first to third. He has the instincts and reads to play center field, but his plus arm and below-average speed will steer him toward a future in right field.
The Future: Colas will go to spring training aiming to earn the job as Chicago's starting right fielder but could return to Triple-A Charlotte for more seasoning.

Track Record:: Colas generated attention for his power stroke while playing in Cuba and in Japan at a young age. The 23-year-old outfielder signed with the White Sox for $2.7 million soon after the 2021-22 international signing period opened in January 2022.
Scouting Report: Power is the calling card for Colas, who some in the White Sox organization believe could turn into a 30-plus home run hitter. Colas has plus raw power and generates lift in his swing. International scouts were split on Colas' pure hitting ability, though he wasn' t getting tested against age-appropriate pitching while training in the Dominican Republic. In Cuba, Colas had a heavyset first base type build, but after leaving he transformed himself physically to shed weight. That should help him handle a corner outfield spot, with a plus arm for right field. The White Sox have even considered giving him time in center field, but he projects long term in a corner, with some first base risk depending how his conditioning goes.
The Future: Coming off a long layoff from facing competitive pitching, there could be an initial adjustment period for Colas, but he immediately becomes one of the top power prospects in the system. He will make his pro debut in High-A Winston-Salem.
