Bitonti took tiny Aquinas (San Bernardino, Calif.) High and transformed it into a national power during his prep tenure, capped by leading the Falcons to strong showings at the National High School Invitational and Boras Classic this spring. Bitonti’s own performance was uneven, but he showed impressive tools and finished strong by leading Aquinas to the CIF section semifinals. Bitonti boasts a tantalizing combination of size, youth and raw power that has made him famous since he was a freshman. He is one of the youngest players in the draft class at 17 years old and is already 6-foot-5, 230 pounds with room to continue filling out. He possesses plus raw power from the left side with his natural strength and leverage and drives balls even when he mis-hits them. He has a chance to grow into plus-plus power with added strength and physical maturity. Bitonti’s long levers lead to holes in his swing, which gets long and loopy at times. He has struggled against good velocity and lefthanded pitching, but he’s improved his plate discipline and made enough adjustments to provide optimism he’ll get better in time. Bitonti moves remarkably well for his large size and shows good range and lateral mobility at shortstop. He projects to move to third base as he fills out and should be an above-average defender with plus arm strength. Bitonti requires refinement, but his youth, tools and athleticism give him a chance to be drafted in the top two rounds. He is committed to Oregon.

BA Grade/Risk: 55/Very High.
Track Record: Bitonti had the physical look of a man among boys in high school despite being one of the youngest players in the 2023 class. He turned 18 four months after the 2023 draft, when the Brewers picked him in the third round and signed him for a well above-slot bonus of $1.75 million. Held back from full-season ball for the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League in 2024, Bitonti tied for third in the ACL with eight home runs, then joined Low-A Carolina in late July.
Scouting Report: Bitonti is a physical lefthanded slugger with the strength and leverage in his swing that helps him produce plus-plus raw power. Bitonti’s power comes with a high dose of swing-and-miss, and he struck out at a 28% clip in 2024. For a young, long-levered hitter, Bitonti keeps his hands tightly connected to his body, but there’s a steepness to his swing as he looks to launch balls. He tends to step in the bucket, leaving him vulnerable on the outer third. Still, he’s not a free-swinger, and his ability to draw walks will be important, especially with the strikeouts that will always be part of his game. There aren’t many third basemen in major league history as big as Bitonti, but he has surprising range and body control for his size to go with a plus arm and quick reactions off the bat. A below-average runner, Bitonti has the tools to be able to stick at third base, though he has experience at first base, too, and could be a plus defender if he moves there one day.
The Future: If everything clicks, Bitonti has the upside to develop into a 30-plus homer third baseman. With minimal full-season experience, however, he will have to prove he can keep his swing-and-miss in check against better pitching.

BA Grade: 55/Extreme
Track Record: Bitonti didn’t turn 18 until four months after the 2023 draft, making him extremely young for that year’s high school class. A third-round pick in 2023, Bitonti signed for an above-slot bonus of $1.75 million, then made his pro debut in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League.
Scouting Report: Bitonti immediately grabs attention for his size. He’s a physical 6-foot-4 infielder with big lefthanded power. He has the strength, leverage and bat speed to generate plus raw power now with a chance to grow into 70 raw power on the 20-80 scale. There is some length to Bitonti’s swing that leaves holes and creates a higher swing-and-miss rate. He has been able to keep the strikeouts manageable, but it will likely always be something he has to monitor in what projects as a power-over-hit offensive profile. While Bitonti’s size is more typical of a first baseman, he has surprisingly good body control on the left side of the infield. He played shortstop in high school and spent some time there in the ACL, though he spent more time at third base after signing. While his speed is limited, his defensive actions are sound and his arm is plus, so he could stick at third base. He has experience at first base as well and could be a plus defender if he had to move to the position.
The Future: As a teenager who has yet to get to a full-season league, Bitonti carries plenty of risk, but he has some of the biggest upside in the organization. He should spend 2024 in Low-A Carolina.
