Track Record: One of Detroit's top signings during the 2019 international signing period, Sequera didn't get to make his pro debut until 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic, but he used the layoff to get bigger and stronger. Sequera's 11 home runs led the Florida Complex League in 2021. This year, he fell one short of going back-to-back on home run titles, as his 19 home runs were second best in the Florida State League, one behind Carlos Dominguez.
Scouting Report: A physical player with a broad-shouldered power hitter's build, Sequera's swing is geared to consistently get to that power. He has a significant leg kick and excellent rotational speed paired with a fluid swing. Sequera's top end exit velocities (106 mph) aren't all that spectacular, but he should continue to get stronger. Sequera has one glaring flaw at the plate that he has to improve. He currently swings at most anything and chases out of the zone way too often. If he gets a pitch in the zone, his above-average bat-to-ball skills are apparent, but he's too often swinging at unhittable pitches. His 22% strikeout rate is an impressive testament to those bat-to-ball skills considering his incredible aggressive approach. Defensively, Sequera has limited range and below-average speed. He started playing second and third base regularly, which are better fits than shortstop. His average arm should be able to handle either spot.
The Future: Sequera's 2022 season was better than the slash line may indicate. As a multi-position infielder with power potential, he has everyday regular potential. High-A West Michigan beckons.

Track Record: Considered by many to be one Detroit’s top signings during the 2019 international signing period. Sequera added strength over the shutdown and re-emerged a power hitting shortstop likely to move off of the position. He spent the summer in the Florida Complex League with the Tigers East squad, winning the circuit’s home run title and ranking No. 8 on the FCL Top 10 Prospects list.
Scouting Report: A physical player with a broad shouldered power hitter’s build. The added muscle and physicality manifested itself in big power numbers for Sequera, as he showed a knack for the barrel, deploying a simple, fluid righthanded swing with natural loft, and few moving parts outside a pronounced leg kick. The simplicity of Sequera’s load allows him to adjust to pitch height and sit back on breaking balls. His bat-to-ball skills are above-average, and enough to overcome aggressive, and at times immature swing decisions. As this area of Sequera’s game adds refinement his strikeout numbers should decrease. In the field Sequera is limited by a lack of range. He made 39 starts at shortstop this summer, but looks likely to move off of the position long term. He projects to move to third base where his strong throwing arm should suffice. A below-average runner, Sequera’s game is predicated on hard contact and bat-to-ball skills.
The Future: With a strong debut season under his belt, Sequera should see assignment to Low-A Lakeland out of camp, where he’s likely to see time at a variety of spots in the infield. His combination of feel to hit, above-average power, and a strong throwing arm give him the look of a potential power-hitting corner infielder.

The Tigers’ top two international signings in their 2019 class were outfielder Roberto Campos and Sequera, both of whom posted big power numbers in their pro debuts in the FCL. While Campos signed in part because of his power, Sequera has grown into considerably more power over the last two years. Coming out of Venezuela, Sequera was more of a line-drive hitter with doubles power, but he showed the bat speed and ample strength projection in his frame to project more power, which is what happened. Sequera earned praise for his swing mechanics, approach and power, though he did strike out 29% of the time. Sequera has a plus arm, but his range and infield actions will probably push him to third base.
