Track Record: Murray was born and raised in the Bahamas before moving to Florida for high school. He earned a scholarship to Florida Atlantic and led the Owls with 14 home runs as a junior, which led the Cubs to draft him in the 15th round and sign him for $125,000. Murray broke out at Double-A Tennessee in 2023 and earned a Futures Game selection.
Scouting Report: Murray is a well-rounded player who does everything well, if nothing spectacular. He’s a switch-hitter with a calm, patient approach and excellent strike-zone discipline from both sides of the plate. He doesn’t have a ton of bat speed, but he manages counts and swings at the right pitches to do damage. His lefthanded swing is better and more powerful than his righthanded swing, though he’s able to make contact with both and has roughly even career splits. His superb swing decisions give him a chance to be an average hitter with double-digit home run power. Murray is an above-average runner underway and is quick in small spaces defensively. He reads angles and hops well, has a good internal clock and projects to be an average third baseman with an average arm.
The Future: Murray’s all-around game gives him a chance to carve out at least a part-time role in the majors. His debut could come in 2024.
