Johnson is a 6-foot-5, 210-pound projection lefthander with light pure stuff now but plenty to dream on in the future for a team who has the patience to let him develop. Johnson has a clean operation on the mound with an overhead windup, a loose arm stroke and crossfire delivery that likely adds some deception. He only throws a fastball that gets to the upper-80s, but he has shown quality shape and depth to a low-to-mid-70s curveball and could have above-average control down the line. Johnson’s lack of velocity could make him a tough sign in a 20-round draft and a minor league system that doesn’t incentive long-term projection picks so he might wind up on campus at Ole Miss where he could take a big jump and shoot up boards in two years when he’s a draft-eligible sophomore.
