Organization Prospect Rankings
Track Record: Jackson primarily played the outfield at Utah but also showed intriguing arm strength during 12 relief appearances. Though he posted a 6.53 ERA and missed all of 2017 after having Tommy John surgery, the Dodgers drafted him as a pitcher in the 12th round and signed him for an over-slot $247,500 bonus. Jackson made the decision look prescient when he tied for second in the organization in strikeouts in his first full season as a pitcher in 2019. He spent 2020 at the alternate training site and made his major league debut in 2021 with a 2.31 ERA in 11.2 innings.
Scouting Report: Jackson is slowly learning to harness his immense athleticism and arm strength. His fastball ranges widely from 90-98 mph, but at his best he sits 93-96 mph and gets swings and misses up in the zone. After initially struggling to find a consistent secondary pitch, Jackson has developed impressive feel and command for a plus, 83-85 mph changeup that gets swings and misses from both righties and lefties. He sells the pitch well with his arm speed and gets batters waving over it with its late drop. Jackson experimented with a curveball, cutter and slider before settling on a short slider in the mid 80s. It has a chance to be an average pitch as he becomes more consistent throwing it for strikes. Jackson’s control has improved with experience but remains fringy. He throws more strikes at the lower end of his velocity range.
The Future: Jackson’s stuff and control fit best in the bullpen, but he’s still improving and could start if they tick up. He’ll return to the majors in 2022.
TRACK RECORD: Jackson primarily played the outfield at Utah, but his raw arm strength intrigued scouts during 11 relief appearances as a sophomore. He missed his junior season after having Tommy John surgery, but the Dodgers still drafted him as a pitcher in the 12th round and signed him for $247,500. Jackson returned to health in 2019 and emerged as one of the system's biggest breakouts. He tied for second in the organization in strikeouts (141) and ranked fourth in ERA (3.06) while jumping to high Class A Rancho Cucamonga.
SCOUTING REPORT: Jackson is extremely athletic with a quick arm and a natural feel for a delivery. He runs his fastball from 92-98 mph, sitting 94-96, and backs it up with an upper 80s cutter, mid-80s changeup and low 80s breaking ball. He is still learning what pitch to throw in which counts, and none of his secondaries show better than average. His control comes and goes and is below-average overall.
THE FUTURE: Jackson is still understandably raw given his lack of experience. His future outlook should become clearer in 2020.

TRACK RECORD: Jackson primarily played left field at Utah and briefly pitched as a reliever. He missed the 2017 season after having Tommy John surgery, but the Dodgers liked his arm strength and drafted him as a pitcher in the 12th round. Jackson got healthy, began starting and tied for second in the organization in strikeouts as he advanced to high Class A Rancho Cucamonga in 2019. The Dodgers brought him to the alternate training site in 2020 and added him to their 40-man roster after the season.
SCOUTING REPORT: Jackson is a good athlete with lots of natural arm strength. His fastball sits 95-96 mph and gets swings and misses in the strike zone, and his above-average changeup is one of the best in the organization. He shows natural feel to spin the ball and flashes an average curveball and hard cutter with short tilt. Jackson is still raw and more of a thrower than pitcher. He revamped his delivery and arm action at the alternate site to improve his below-average control, and he lacks the feel for sequencing or command that comes with experience.
THE FUTURE: Jackson is still learning how to pitch but is a potential late-bloomer as a converted position player. Double-A awaits in 2021.
