Track Record: A late-blooming prospect out of Panama, Catuy was physically immature when the D-backs first scouted him but continued to grow and improve with each subsequent look. Drawn to his loose, easy actions and elite athleticism, the D-backs signed him for $200,000 during the 2023 international signing period. He put together an impressive pro debut in the Dominican Summer League, posting an .803 OPS and 18 stolen bases.
Scouting Report: Catuy has a compact, quick righthanded swing with few moving parts that consistently generates line drives. He is aggressive early in counts but keeps his strikeout rate in check thanks to his ability to make contact with two strikes. He can get pull happy and needs to learn to use the whole field more often. Catuy is a plus runner who should be able to stick in center field, where his reads and routes are advanced for his age. He is thin with an athletic frame that has plenty of room for strength projection. Catuy is a confident, charismatic player whom players and staff gravitate to for his personality and work ethic.
The Future: Catuy has a chance to develop into a five-tool center fielder if his power develops. He still has a long development track ahead and will open 2024 in the Arizona Complex League.
