Foster earned a national championship ring as a walk-on backup quarterback on Louisiana State's football team in 2011. He then focused on baseball exclusively in 2012, but rejoined the football team as a backup quarterback in 2014 when the Tigers needed depth help. He's had a much more prominent baseball role for the Tigers. Foster has the knack for the highlight catch and the speed and route-running ability to slide over to center field in pro ball. As you may expect for a quarterback, he has an above-average arm. Foster's swing has length and leverage producing average power but at the expense of batting average.

Foster was a two-sport athlete at Louisiana State, playing four years on the baseball team and doubling as the backup quarterback on the 2011 national championship football team. While still plenty raw in baseball skills, the Angels gambled on Foster's athleticism and powerful arm, taking him in the fifth round in 2015 and signing him for a below-slot $100,000 bonus. He spent the first half of 2016 with low Class A Burlington before finishing the year at high Class A Inland Empire, putting up similar numbers at both levels. Foster possesses plenty of tools, but scouts worry he won't develop the necessary pitch recognition to hit at higher levels. He shows plus bat speed in batting practice and is aggressive at the plate but hasn't tapped into his plus raw power and gets himself out by swinging at bad pitches. He also needs to learn to better use his speed on the bases after going just 9-for-19 in stolen bases. Possessing a borderline plus arm and at least average speed, Foster improved his routes in the outfield and was a solid defender in 2016 With not a lot of organizational depth ahead of him, Foster may head right to Double-A Mobile in 2017.
Foster earned a ring as a backup quarterback on Louisiana State's 2011 national championship football team. He spent more time on the baseball field at LSU, playing four years there and seeing more action at second base than outfield in his senior year. The Angels gambled on Foster's athleticism and lightning arm, taking him in the fifth round and signing him for a below-slot $100,000. Foster has plenty of raw tools that will need to be refined after the split in development time with his football career. He has a borderline plus arm and above-average to plus speed, but he needs to improve his routes in the outfield. Foster is an aggressive hitter with a pull approach and average power from his swing with length and leverage. He needs to learn other facets of the game, like bunting, in order to better utilize his speed. He's got raw power but won't get to it in games until he improves his approach at the plate. Foster will get his first taste of full-season ball in 2016 with an assignment to low Class A Burlington.
