Montgomery is a large, 6-foot-4, 210-pound infielder and catcher who has bigtime power upside and also put together a solid offensive summer against quality competition. He has plenty of strength and above-average raw power now with a chance for plus or more at physical maturity. While Montgomery has some length in his swing thanks to his levers he did a nice job handling velocity and staying within the zone on his swings and impressed with both his bat-to-ball skills and overall offensive approach. There is a step in the bucket action in his swing, which might create holes on the outer third of the strike zone and could be an area for improvement moving forward. He’ll need to work to stick behind the plate at the next level, but his above-average arm strength and reasonable hands and actions will give him a chance at the position even if he’s more likely to slide to first base in the future.
