Signed for $550,000 in July 2013, Tapia has a sleeker build than the typical young Dominican third baseman. Some see a young Aramis Ramirez in the angular Tapia, who quickly grew an inch to 6-foot-4 in the first three months after signing. Though just an average runner, he has a plus arm and enough agility to convince the Twins he could yet turn into a strong defender at third. Others believe he might need to change positions, with a switch to corner outfield a distinct possibility. Another product of the Dominican Prospect League, Tapia has solid makeup and maintains a sharp focus on his game. He displays easy power with a righthanded swing that has some finish and length. The Twins already have Miguel Sano playing third base at the top of their prospect food chain. Tapia may contend with Amaurys Minier to see if one can become a worthy heir in the coming years. He may start his pro career in the Dominican Summer League with a chance to earn a jump to the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League.
