Shortstop Booty, a top-notch quarterback from Evangel Christian High in Shreveport, La., was named USA Today's national offensive player of the year in football. He was ranked the No. 1 prep talent by Baseball America at the outset of the 1994 season and continues to hold the top spot, in part because of the relentless interest shown by the Florida Marline. He's the nation's career passing yardage and touchdown record-holder. Because of his leverage, Booty is in position to command the largest signing bonus in this year's draft, probably somewhere in the $1 million range.
