Lefthander Jarred Holloway began his college career at Mississippi State but transferred to St. Petersburg JC after his freshman year. He has two above-average pitches, but like so many juco pitchers struggles with command. Holloway's fastball sits between 89-92 mph, and at 6-feet-3 he pitches with good downward plane. His second pitch is a slider that is inconsistent but at times devastating.

Holloway took a somewhat circuitous route to pro ball. An Arkansas native, he spent his freshman year at Mississippi State, then transferred to St. Petersburg JC and signed for $150,000 after one season. His fastball and curve both rate as plus pitches, with his heater ranging from 90-95 mph. A downer curveball from his 6-foot-3 frame has the Astros just as excited, and he also shows a slider at times. Holloway has long struggled with command, which kept him from getting consistent innings at Mississippi State. Holloway's problems come because he gets rushed and tries to do too much. In his debut at Tri-City, he issued almost as many walks as strikeouts and uncorked 12 wild pitches. Because he is a big-bodied lefty, the Astros put him on an offseason conditioning program that will help him with his durability. The drills would also have the added benefit of further disciplining Holloway on the mound so that he quiets down his delivery. He'll move up to full-season ball at Lexington this season.
